  this is my current bottom-line conclusion after starting to see through the jw game 3 to 4 years ago and going through my own process of waking up.

  it helps to write it down and put it "out there".

  i hope it helps or resonates with you in your own personal process.. basically if i were given 10 seconds to say something to an active jehovah's witness that i cared about it would be the headline above.

  Further to Steve's comment, Muggeridge was a vastly entertaining speaker and writer influenced by his long experience as a journalist and foreign correspondent... but... in later life had the fundamental defect of subordinating his world view to a rigid deism of the Catholic variety. It appeared to me to be a form of penance and atonement for earlier misdemeanours.

  @exjwsrock, do bear in mind that the path of waking up (usually) travels from the closed and fixated religious JW mind to being a responsible free moral agent using reason and evidence for decision making instead of belief. It is like growing up. Many get snagged on the way by the familiar lure of the rewards of faith.

  When people post who have exited, it is possible to see just where they are on this path and I think recognizing the folly of "faith" and "belief" is a necessary hurdle to jump in escaping the old mind-set.

  gorby is as you know a long time fader.. visited the convention this weekend.. and concluded that samuel herds talk about hope was not so bad at all, it was well balanced.

  made some good points.. knowing both sides of the medallion, have to admit he was humble with a focus on hope.. the saturday drama impressed me.

  of course, there is a lot to say about the organization, this professional produced movie in a "true story" scenario, gave me the insight that hope is important for suffering people.

  Now Gorby you know the warnings about bad association! But credit where credit is due.

  All religion is about hope because there is little or no evidence of any reality connected to it except seeing the lives and activities of fellow believers. It sort of convinces the believer that hoping the same thing with others will make make it come true.

  i was a born in and was always taught charles taze russell was the founder.

  If the JW religion continues as a wealthy cult by teaching "the perpetual imminence of Christ's return"... it will always be necessary to cut off its actual roots since its doctrines only have a short shelf life when they can be perceived as being remotely credible by the faithful. (One can only be astonished at the transparent fraud of the "overlapping generation" excuse!)

  They have denounced Russell which really only leaves the unsavoury scoundrel JF Rutherford as the founder, the one who introduced the term Jehovah's Witnesses---having borrowed that term from others.

  If this is God's organization I would think God must be desperate to choose this lot.
